The Association provides two categories for membership: Full and Associate.
Full Membership includes experienced legal practitioners and counsellors practising in fertility, surrogacy and donor arrangements.
Legal practitioners may apply for Full Membership if they meet the following criteria:
- 1. have a current unrestricted lawyer practising certificate in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand
- 2. have engaged in the practice of law for a minimum of 5 years
- 3. for Australian practitioners, have represented parties at least twenty (20) ART arrangements (including surrogacy and/or donor arrangements)
- 4. for New Zealand practitioners, have represented parties in at least ten (10) ART arrangements (including surrogacy and/or donor arrangements)
- 5. where the practitioners has not acted in the requisite number of matters, be eligible for invitation to join on the recommendation of another member and by majority vote of the Board
- 6. have been recommended for admission by a Full Member of the Association who has personal knowledge of the practitioner’s practice and qualifications.
Counsellors may apply for Full Membership if they meet the following criteria:
- 1. are Full members of the Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellor’s Association (ANZICA)
- 2. have been recommended for admission by a Full member of the Association who has personal knowledge of the practitioner’s practice and qualifications.
Invitations to Full Membership shall be at the discretion of the Board.
Associate Membership is available for allied professionals including:
- 1. judicial and court officers
- 2. retired practitioners
- 3. health practitioners, including fertility specialists, nurses, midwives, obstetricians and gynaecologists, general practitioners and other allied health professionals
- 4. legal industry professionals who either do not meet the criteria or do not wish to apply for Full Membership
- 5. psychology and mental health practitioners who either do not meet the criteria or do not wish to apply for Full Membership
- 6. researchers and academics
- 7. tertiary students
- 8. other professionals on application and as determined by the Board.
